New Attorney General Maura Healey may have as much or even more of an impact on nonprofits and businesses in Massachusetts as new Governor Charlie Baker. Stay tuned for updates on how she handles the PartnersHealthCare System expansion, other health care issues, energy costs, and possible new regulations covering nonprofits such as heightened financial disclosure showing the effectiveness of contributions. http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2015/01/21/leung/TIJlGFJrh1E0p5eMaV6SyO/story.html
Feel free to comment on how you think AG Healey might affect Massachusetts businesses and nonprofits. And don't hesitate to call me at 617-872-8648 with any questions about current or proposed AG regulations, practices or positions.
UPDATE (as of January 26, 2015). New AG Healey files position paper on a settlement deal approving the expansion of PartnersHealthCare. Due to anti-trust concerns, AG's office is no longer in favor of Partners' expansion under the terms of the settlement deal worked out by Healey's predecessor Martha Coakley. The AG's office will await Judge Sanders' decision on the legality of the settlement agreement. If that decision approves the settlement agreement, the AG's office will enforce the deals expanding Partners, but if the judge rejects the expansion, the AG's office will litigate to at least prevent Partners' acquisition of South Shore Hospital and "further evaluate" the acquisition of Hallmark Health.
